Kuwait Agriculture

Contents extracted from the comprehensive atlas of international trade by Export Entreprises

In spite of effort consented by Kuwait to develop the farming sector, it represented only 1% of the GDP in 1997. This situation results more from the nature of the climate and of the Kuwaiti soil than from investments operated to improve the agricultural production returns.

In 1997, Kuwait imported 1.027 billion dollars of foodstuffs. The fishing sector has not yet recovered of the catastrophic situation caused by the Gulf War in 1991. Main Kuwaiti agricultural productions are fruits and vegetables, white and red meats and eggs.
