It is vital to display maximum retail and whole sale prices of goods available for sale at any place of business or price should be marked on the good itself or on the wrapper or pack of the goods. A complete list of price of goods available for sale must be kept within the place of business at all times for inspections whenever required.

Every trader should issue a receipt to the purchaser on his demand and the receipt should contains the following details,

  • The type or names of goods sold
  • The quantity of goods sold
  • Date of the sale
  • Nature of the sale, whether sale was retail or wholesale
  • Price and total value of the sale
  • Any other required details that may be imposed by any law relating to the issue of receipts by a trader

Every trader should keep conspicuous place in his or her business place as a notice board to display any notice, directions or warnings issued by the consumer affairs authority.

Any person who removes, alters, obliterates, erases or defaces such notice, under this act, will be guilty of an offence.

Engaging any type of conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is like to mislead or deceive the consumer or any other trader should not be done by any trader during the cause of trade or business.

If it is satisfied after an inquiry completed by the authority, as it may deem necessary that any person has contravened any of the provisions of this act, then a warning to such person should be sent in writing by registered post.

The consumer affairs authority has power to require any manufacturer, exporter, importer, distributors and service provider to maintain records and report in order for the proper discharge of their functions. It is a duty and responsibility of all manufacturer, exporter, importer, distributors and service provider to maintain such records and reports. Such reports must preserve for period of time not exceeding six years.
